The son of Daniel & Mary (Bender) Weidner, he married Barbara Guise and fathered Hester (b. 1849), John W. (b. @1852), Mary L. (b. 02/26/53 - married a Brough), Anna C. (b. 02/22/55 - married a Thomas), Savilla (b. 01/02/56), Sarah R. (b. @1860), Matilda B. (b. 11/13/62 - married a Glime), George Sebastian (b. 02/14/65), and Harmen W. (b. 02/18/68). Three of his children died while he was in the army. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania, and stood 5' 8" tall with light hair and blue eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in New Oxford, Adams County, August 29, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 3 as a private with Co. C, 202nd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company August 3, 1865.

Barbara died in 1882, and he married Caroline Harman September 15, 1891. In 1890, he lived in Huntington Township, Adams County, but died at his home in Bendersville, Adams County, from a "ruptured blood vessel in brain."
