Sidney may be a daughter of Thomas Divine and Jemima Dill of Spartanburg County. Her parents later moved on to Tennessee. If these were her parents then she is a sister to James, Thomas, Jr, Nancy Ann and Mary Margaret "Peggy". Late in life her mother would apply for a pension as a Revolutionary War widow and be declined.

Sidney married John A Butler by 1800 and they appear to be the parents of six sons and six daughters, Matilda being the youngest.

Sidney is seen, already widowed, in the 1840 census with two daughters in the age 20-30 category and a younger son or grandson. She is found again in the 1850 census with her daughter, Matilda and they reside near her other daughter, Kindness Butler Center, in the Glassy Mountain area.

Her last will and testament was signed 4 Jul 1857 and witnessed by J H Center. It indicates that Kindness is her daughter and Stephen Center her son-in-law and that she bequeathed her homestead acreage near Glassy Mountain to them. She is most likely buried on her homestead.
