Elijah and his wife, Nancy, moved to Tennessee in 1821 and then to Marion County, Alabama in 1825.

Elijah and Nancy bought about 80 acres of land on May 10, 1848, receiving the original land certificate number 13074, signed by President James K. Polk. The Old Franks Family Cemetery was established here, probably around 1858, when his son Lemuel B. Franks and his daughter-in-law Eliza A. died leaving two young children, John J. and William D. to be reared by Elijah and Nancy.

Elijah and Nancy's son, George J. Franks, is also buried here.

Elijah died before 1870. His grave is marked only with a field stone.Elisha is buried in an unmarked grave. There are some websites and records that have his name being Elihu. That is due to the 1850 Census in Marion County, Alabama. On the census, the census taker's handwriting could look like Elihu instead of Elisha.
