Ed Nightingale was born in Joliet, Illinois, on Jan. 24, 1867, and passed away on Jan. 1, 1943 at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was the oldest of Margaret and Benjamin Nightingale. The family moved to Centralia, Kansas in 1873 when he was 9 years old. He was married to Oral Ross at Beloit, Kansas, on Jan. 31, 1899. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Hazel Rollenhagen and Mrs. Margaret Clark of Wheaton, Ben and Albert Nightingale of Clay Center, and Mrs. Mary Schwarz of Onaga.
Besides his wife and five children he is survived by four brothers, L Arthur and Fred of Centralia; Elmer and Clinton of Corning; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Coulter, of Vermillion, Kansas; 16 grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was a member of the Congregational church of Wheaton. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was especially fond of his grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by two sisters, Ida Mooney and Allie McBratney, and one brother John Nightingale.
