Daughter of Warnell C Polk (his damaged headstone transcription has middle initial "L", but my family records show "C")(1832-1882) & Irene Meyers. Mattie was one of at least 8 known children born to Warnell and Irene.

Wife of Bernard "Berman" Elias Barber whom she married on November 7, 1877 and had at least 11 known children. Mattie and Bernard are both buried in the Masonic section of Prairie Lea Cemetery.

One of Mattie's siblings (brother), CALVIN WARNELL POLK, was part of the Posse that captured BILLY THE KID in New Mexico.
