Mrs Caroline Seaman Read of 4 East 62d St, Manhattan, widow of William A Read, founder of W. A. Read & Co., predecessor or the banking firm of Dillon, Read & Co., died yesterday at Presbyterian Hospital following an operation.
Surviving are 6 children: William Augustus Read, Mrs Archibald G McIlwaine Jr, Dr R Bartow Read, Duncan H Read, Bayard W Read and Miss M Elizabeth Read

Mrs Read was born June 3, 1868, in Brooklyn and married on Nov 20, 1894.
Mrs Read was the daughter of the late Samuel H Seaman, whose family home was for many years on South Portland Ave. Her father was President of the Cromwell Steamship Co.
Mrs Read was, prior to her marriage, one of the most popular of the younger society set on Brooklyn Heights. She moved to Manhattan after her marriage and became one of the foremost society women in New York.
During the World War, she took a great interest in the Red Cross and other causes. She had four sons serving with the colors, one of whom, Ensign Curtis S Read, was killed in a seaplane accident at Dunkirk in February 1918.
Mrs Read was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames, Sleepy Hollow Country Club, Colony Club and Cosmopolitan Club.
