Funeral services for Henry Grammer, who passed away Wednesday afternoon last week were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the L. L. Wages home in Palmer..(funeral details followed)

Charles Henry Grammer was born in Hancock County, Illinois, June 14, 1873 and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. L. Wages, in Palmer, October 23, 1940, aged 67 years and 4 months.

The family moved to Corning, Iowa in 1877. In 1882 they came to Nebraska. The trip was made in covered wagons. Henry walked the entire distance, driving 1000 head of sheep.

There was no bridge at Omaha, and they crossed on a ferry.

They homesteaded the place now known as the Harvey Maddox farm in Gage Valley, where Henry grew to manhood.

Early in life he learned to appreciate the value of industry, frugality and self reliance, and he exercised these virtues throughout his entire lifetime.

No matter how arduous the task, or what difficulties he might encounter, he never gave way to despair or discouragement.

He was a man who bore adversity bravely, and enjoyed prosperity modestly.

He had filled the various relations in life, as son, husband, father, brother, friend and filled them well. Who can do more?

On December 31, 1893 he was married to Chloie Adella McCormick, who passed away January 19, 1937. To this union were born three daughters, Winnie Faye and Lenna Florence, who preceded their mother in death, and Mrs. L. L. Wages.

Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Seth D. of Murphy, Idaho, George of Thedford, Nebraska, three sisters, Mrs. Cora Klingingsmith, Mrs. Minnie Bower, both of Caldwell, Idaho, Mrs. Lottie Applegate of Sacramento, California and a grand-daughter, Carolyn Lee Wages.
