In Memoriam -
Charles Grammer was born at Beverly, Illinois, May 25, 1849, and passed away May 26, 1923 at the farm home near Palmer.
In 1870 he was married to Miss Anna Kelley. In the spring of 1877 they moved to Corning, Iowa. In August 1883 they came to Nebraska, locating on a farm in Gage Valley where they resided until they moved to Palmer several years ago.
He served in the Nebraska Legislature as Representative from Howard County, in 1893.
Mr. Grammer took an active part in the development of agriculture and stock raising in this section, and was interested in every movement having for it's object the improvement of the condition of the farmer and the laboring man.
He suffered a paralytic stroke in March, 1922, which confined him to his bed up to the time of his death.
He was a patient sufferer, being kind and cheerful to those taking care of him.
He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful wife, his sons, Henry, of Palmer, Seth, of Caldwell, Idaho; George, of Thedford, Nebr.; and daughters, Mrs. Cora Klingingsmith and Mrs. Minnie Bower, both of Caldwell, Idaho; and Mrs. Lottie Applegate of Rawlins, Wyoming, a granddaughter, Elsie Grammer of Thedford, who cared for him during the last year of his life, and several other grandchildren, a brother, George Grammer, of Bery, Illinois, who was present at the funeral, a sister, Mrs. Mary Tollen of Anacortes, Washington, and a cousin, Frank Grammer, mayor of Kearney, was here for the funeral.
The funeral was held at the Christian Church Tuesday afternoon May 29th, and interment was made in Rose Hill.
Chas. Grammer was a man who bore adversity bravely and enjoyed prosperity modestly. He had filled the various relations of life, as son, husband, father, brother and friend, and filled them well. Who can do more?

Charles Grammer recently located in Gage Valley with a thousand sheep. He is well pleased with the hills on the east side and thinks they afford the finest kind of sheep ranch.
