He is survived by two sons, Allen of Morris, and Gary of Gilbertsville, Ky. His third son, Albert Jr. of Meriden, predeceased him by nearly two years. He has eight grandchildren, Scott, Chris, Holly, Tim, Brett, Kevin, Shawn and Gary Jr., ten great-grandchildren, and a score of nieces and nephews.
Albert was the son of Angelo and Maria (DelTreggia) of Arezzo, Italy. He served two terms with the National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He worked for Gould Electronics at the time of his retirement and prior for New Departure and Pratt & Whitney. He was an avid gardener and loved "visiting" his flowers and shrubs. He fed a menagerie of animals in his backyard including feral cats and a rooster, which has been crowing his departure.
He lived most of his life on the west side of Meriden and in his latter years was relatively house bound where he welcomed a large group of very close friends – his "angels"- who held parties and festivals at his home which always peaked his spirits. The state of Connecticut will lose revenue going forward as Albert was a prolific player of "scratch off" lottery tickets. He was also a master cribbage player where he defeated all challengers by disarming them with his witty banter. He favored bowling with his long term and precious friend, Doris, until a fall disrupted his play some years ago.
Our dad, grandfather and friend never had a mean word for anyone. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he touched. We will all miss him every day!
His funeral will be held 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours at the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, are encouraged. They can be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 109 Goodwill Ave., Meriden 06451.
