Betty Dennis
Betty L. (Carlile) Dennis, longtime resident of Blair, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 87 from a long battle with Alzheimer’s at the English Village Manor in Altus.
Betty was born on December 4, 1929 to her parents Tom and Jessie (Bishop) Carlile in Sayre, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of her eight siblings. Betty married Orville Coffey on June 5, 1949 and to this union four children were born, Tommy, Donna, Mary, and Carol. She worked several odd jobs outside of the home through out the years but her main job was taking care of her family. She later married James Elery Dennis on April 4, 1974 in Vernon, Texas and they enjoyed over 23 years of marriage until Elery’s death on June 16, 1997.
Preceded in death by her parents; her son, Tommy; two brothers; four sisters; a great granddaughter; Betty is survived by her three daughters, Donna Cowart and husband Jay of Altus; Mary Burkham and husband Alan of Blair; and Carol Tallman and husband Rusty of Ohio; one sister, Darlene Roles of Elk City; grandchildren, Greg, Joe, Billy, Codi, Joshua, Andrea, Cori, Willy, Barrett, Heather, Clay, Deanna, Windy, Britney, and Beau; numerous great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family members, and friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening, November 22, 2017 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, November 24, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Blair, Oklahoma with Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Blair Cemetery just west of Blair under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
