Mr. Hawkins had served as vice president of the Panhandle Ground Water District, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Panhandle, and on the board of directors of the Panhandle Country Club. He was a member of the Panhandle school board for 13 years and was on the agricultural advisory committee to Rep. Bob Price.
Born in Lawton, Oklahoma, he was a veteran of World War II, Captain in the US Army Air Corp, and had been awarded the Silver Star, Bronze star, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lela and Clifford Hawkins, and a brother, Donald Hawkins. Survivors include his wife, Arlene; a son, Jerry of Panhandle; a daughter, Mrs. Cheryl Howard of Amarillo; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Patterson of Spearman; and a grandson, Theron Howard III.
