THORNTON RITES HELD
GRIDLEY - Funeral services for John J. Thornton, who died Friday in the Newman -Memorial County Hospital in Emporia, were held Monday afternoon in the Christian Church. They were conducted by the Rev. Kendall Bates. The singers were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mozingo, Mrs. Robert Hursh and Walter Mozingo; the accompanist was Mrs. James Wyble. Pallbearers were Eugene Beyer. John Isch, Paul Wiley, Harry Woodcock, Glen Dressier, Phil Kraft, and Harold Mudge.
John Thornton was born Oct. 22nd 1894, at Madison and was married to Sarah Sleezer of Gridley. Nov. 7th. 1945. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Gridley Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, of the home: two sons, Ralph, of Republic, Mo. and John Conesville, Iowa: three daughters.
Mrs. Lucille Hale, Emporia: Mrs. Irene Tannahill, Cottonwood Falls; and Mrs. Pearl Grubb, Mena. Ark., 11 stepchildren, 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
