Herbert M. Arentz, 82, of Hanover, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Hanover Hospital.
Born Oct. 10, 1913 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late John W. and Malinda Dehoff Arentz. He was married to Louise Sheaffer Arentz.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ.
Mr. Arentz was a vetern of the U.S. Army,serving in World War II in England, Scotland, Ireland and France. During his last three months in the service, he was in charge of German prisoners.
He was a life member of Parkville Fire Company, the AARP at Trinity United Church of Christ, and the Pennsylvania Rangers. He was also a member of the Pennsylvania Sheriffs Association, the York County Police Association, and Wildlife Forever.
He was self-employed as the owner and operator of a trucking company for many years and was also a school bus driver for the South Western School District for 18 years prior to his retirement.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, H. Wayne Arentz of Hanover, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, Bernadine Zarfos Nelson of Bismark, N.D., and Norma Yost of Hanover, two brothers, Ivan Arentz of Littlestown and Fred Arentz of Hanover, and one foster sister, Patsy Erdly of Selingsgrove.
Interment will be in Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover, with full military honors provided by the Allied Veterans Council of Hanover.
