Carrie Whelchel Barnhill Hawkins, 93, of Brookview HealthCare Center, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at Brook-view.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Joe Hawkins and was first married to the late Pelza Barnhill. She was the daughter of the late Sam Whelchel and the late Catherine Spenser Whelchel. She was retired from textiles and farming and was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a sister, Daisey Owensby of Gaffney; a stepson; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Todd Braswell. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Draytonville Baptist Church, 179 Draytonville Church Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
Family members are at their respective homes.
