John N Cammack and Bertha Hackeroot were married April 22, 1914 at the ranch house of her parents about 12 miles south of Nara Visa. John had come from Matador, TX and had worked on several ranches in the area.
John and Bertha lived on their claim until they bought the UV ranch from her family. Their only transportation was by horseback or wagon until they bought a Model-A car. What a change this brought to the family. John, though, who could do anything on a horse, never could get that Model-A trained, and that resulted in torn fences, a hole in the barn and other accidents. In 1938 they sold their ranch and it became part of the Shoenail Cattle Co.
