WILLIAM L. DRAKE CLAIMED BY DEATH
William L. Drake, 64, trustee of Eden township, died Thursday in his home four miles south of the city on the Melmore road after a long illness. For seven weeks he had been in a serious condition. Death was due to a complication of heart disease and dropsy.
He was born in Wood county, September 12, 1858, and two years after his marriage to Miss Alice Shippey, which took place in 1882, they came to this county. He held the office of trustee of Eden township for four years, serving up to his death.
Besides his widow he leaves three sons and a daughter: Prof. Carl Drake, Syracuse, N.Y.; Chalmer Drake, Seneca township; Fred Drake, of this city and Miss Mary Drake, at home. One sister, Mrs. Della Longwell, Republic and a niece, Mrs. Zola Barton, Sycamore, who was reared by the family also survives.
The death in October is regarded by this family as one of will omen. October 17, seven years ago, one of the daughters, Mrs. Albert Kunkle, died. A second daughter died on October 15, three years ago, making the death of Mr. Drake the third one in the family in October.
Funeral services are to be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clockin the home, conducted by Rev. Firestone, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Melmore. Burial will be in Rock Creek cemetery.
