The announcement that S.E. Cotton was dead. Mr. Cotton spent the winter with his daughter, Mrs. Thos. Thorp in Georgia. Returning about six weeks ago the change of climate seemed too much for him, and he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia, which terminated in his death. Mr. Cotton was one of the very earliest of the old settlers, coming to Minnesota City with the Minnesota City colony about forty-eight years ago. He would have been seventy-nine years of age next September. For years he was deputy postmaster under C.C. Chapman, who died but a few months ago. For a great many years he was justice of the peace and settled most of the little differences in the neighborhood always without resorting to the law if possible. He was always an ardent Republican. He was also a active member of the Old Settlers' Association. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon and interment will be made at Minnesota City.
