Irene Myers
Irene Myers, 86, of Columbus Junction, died Saturday, Feb.29, 1992. Born March 1, 1905, in Loda,Ill., she was the daughter of Edward and Eleanor McCracken Alsip. She married Samuel Myers June 1, 1946. He died March 6, 1976.
She was a graduate of the University of Illinois, receiving her teaching certificate. She then taught junior high classes in Champaign and Alton, Ill., and also taught in the Columbus Community Schools, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, the United Presbyterian Women, P.E.O., TTT and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a niece, Judith Cooper of Forest City; three nephews, Ed Hawkins of Cedar Rapids, John Alsip of Des Moines, and James Alsip of Albuquerque, N.M.; and six greatnephews and great-nieces.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction. The funeral for Mrs. Myers will be .1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
