EUGENE P. HUTCHINS, SR.

Eugene P. Hutchins, Sr. died Thursday, Dec. 10 at his home in Lakewood. Known to most as "Doc," he was born April 14, 1933 in Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a son.

Doc was raised in Tacoma and was a veteran of the Korean War. He married his first wife, Diane, in 1969 and moved to Kittitas County a short time later. He was active in scouting in the Upper County until moving to Ellensburg in 1972.

Doc was best known for his caring about those in greater need than himself and his willingness to open his door and give a helping hand whenever necessary. He spent the last few years providing bicycles, advice and encouragement to the underprivileged children in the Tillicum area near Fort Lewis and McChord Airforce Base.

He is survived by his first wife Diane (dec. 2012) of Ohio, his second wife Betty Young of Lakewood, his sons Eugene "Rick" Jr. of Ellensburg, Andrew Ruskin (1964-2022) (Tammy) of Ohio, Ernest Young of Lakewood, Kirk McElroy of Enumclaw, three daughters, Cindy McElroy of Enumclaw, Shannon Drake of Ohio, Maggie Hutchins of Ohio, numerous grandchildren and "adopted" family members.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16 at the 1st Church of God at 94th and A in Tacoma.
