Funeral services for Seymour Gideon, sixty-six, for ten years Martin County Commissioner will be held at the Community Church at 4 p.m Thursday, with the Rev. Sidney Lowrie officiating.

The pioneer Jensen Beach resident and businessman died on Monday at St, Mary's Hospital, West Palm Beach, where he had undergone a heart operation a week prior.

His full name was Harvey Seymour Gideon, but he rarely used the firs name and was known to hundreds of friends as "Seymour."

Born on June 11, 1898, at Topeka, Kans., he came to Florida with his parents in 1911, and with his wife, Lucy Pitchford Gideon, had operated Seymour's Inn and Cottages since 1936.

His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. George I. [should be Lewis] Gideon. [His mother's name was Lucinda Elizabeth (Boan) Gideon.] His father was a pioneer pineapple, beans and citrus grower. [His parents later returned to Kansas]

He was appointed to the Martin County Commission in 1950 to fill the unexpired term of Ransom Tilton, when Tilton went into Navy Aviation combat service; was elected in 1952 and 1956 and served till 1960, and was chairman during parts of his terms.

He was past president of the Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Stuart-Jensen Elks Lodge and Jensen Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Lawrence, in the Navy at Patuxent River Station, Md, Louis and Richard of Jensen Beach and [Robert] Blount [Gideon] of Vero Beach; a daughter, [Joyce] Mrs. Martin Coulter, Jensen Beach, six grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lena Hoover of California.

Friends may call at Yates Funeral Chapel, Jensen Beach, from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery.
