I. Dwight Engle

I. Dwight Engle, 80, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away Feb. 6, 2007, at the Tidewell Hospice in Sarasota, Fla.

He was born Jan. 21, 1927, in Decatur, Ill., to Sadie and William Engle. A native of Decatur, Ill., he was retired from A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, Ill., retiring to Sarasota, Fla., in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 until 1947, as a radioman. He graduated from St. Louis College of Mortuary Science in 1947, and worked for J.J. Moran Funeral Home in Decatur, Ill. He joined A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company in Decatur, Ill., where he served as transportation manager.

Celebrating 35 years with Staley's, he retired in 1985. He was past president of Decatur Transportation Club, a life member of the B.P.O.E. 2495, member of the Masonic Blue Lodge Macon 8 of Decatur, Ill., the Sahib Shrine Temple in Sarasota, Fla., and past member of the Sunrise Golf Club of Sarasota, Fla. He served as a volunteer at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla., and with Lifeline through Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

The family would like to acknowledge the care of the medical community of Sarasota Memorial Hospital, the ICU staff of Doctor's Hospital, the staff of Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care and the many doctors and nurses who provided excellent care for him throughout his illness.

He was married 51 years and is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Libby" (Grady) Engle, formerly of Painesville; daughters, Sylvia Ann (Michael) Engle Wulf of Fayetteville, Ark., and Kathleen Frances (Dean) Engle McGaughey of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Dean Smith McGaughey IV and Natalie Elizabeth McGaughey; brother, Forrest (Elinor) Engle of Melbourne, Fla.; brother-in-law, William H. (Mary) Grady of Ashtabula; five nieces; and three nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Pauline Engle and Eileen Engle Russell; and brother, Gerald Engle.

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at the Toale Brothers Gulf Gate Chapel, in Sarasota, Fla., Inurnment will be in Painesville at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, Grace Baptist Church, 8000 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL 34241, or Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 30772, Tampa, FL 33630-3772.
