Joseph and his brother Antone came to America from Italy. Joseph Patrone was born Giuseppe Patroni in Italy. He came to the United States and settled in Stanislaus County where he raised vegetation to sell in markets. He married Rosine Breckle of Germany in Stockton, California October 7, 1865. Together they had eight children:
Mary Patrone (born about 1867)listed on the 1870 Census for Stanislaus County.

Caroline "Lena" Patrone, born 1871
John Patrone born 1872
Christena Patrone born 1873
