Sarah "Sally" Sharp was born in 1819 near Snaken Creek in Campbell Co., Tennessee. Her parents were Thomas P. Sharp (1773-1833) and Elizabeth Berry (1786-1865). Both were born in Virginia, both died in Whitley Co., Kentucky.

It should be noted that some believe her parents to have been James "Jim" Sharp (1782-1843) and Flemmon Mary Means (1770-1845). Jim was born in Virginia, Mary in North Carolina. Both died in Campbell Co., TN. That parentage, however, is unproven.

Sally, an old-time nickname for Sarah, married Kirby King Douglas (1819-1889) on April 13, 1841 in Campbell Co., TN. Both Sally and Kirby were 22 at the time of their marriage.

Kirby, who was born in Campbell Co., TN, was the son of Mathew Douglas (1791-1845) and Nancy Ann King (1792-1861). Both of Kirby's parents were born in Washington Co., Territory South of the Ohio River (aka Southwest Territory). That territory became the State of Tennessee in 1796. Both died near present day Newcomb, Campbell Co., TN and are buried in Campbell County in the Douglas Cemetery.

Kirby's father, Matthew, was the son of Revolutionary War soldier, John Douglas (1764-1842), and Elizabeth "Betsy" Ford (1764-1815). They were born in the part of Rowan Co., NC that became Surry County in 1771. Both died in Washington Co., TN.

Kirby's mother, Nancy Ann King, was the daughter of Kirby King (Abt 1752/55-abt 1795/96) and Uroth Murray (Abt 1752/55-abt 1806?). Kirby King Douglas was named after his mother's father. She was a sister to Thomas Murray "Tom" King (1790-1880), the patriarch of the King family in McCreary Co., KY who moved his family from Campbell Co., TN to the Marsh Creek area of lower Whitley County (now McCreary Co.) about 1819. Another brother, William King (1785-bet 1841/50), at one time had a farm that adjoined that of Kirby's parents in Campbell County.

Sarah and Kirby resided in Campbell Co. until about 1850. They migrated when they were about 31 to Whitley Co., KY where they lived the rest of their lives. Kirby owned and operated a mill on Paunch Creek for a number of years and lived near his uncle, Thomas Murray "Tom" King. He may have even obtained the land from his uncle.

Sarah and Kirby were married for 48 years and had ten known children. They are listed in his memorial.

Sarah died on May 28, 1889 in Whitley Co. (now McCreary Co.) at the age of 70. Her husband, Kirby (70), died less than two months later, on July 18, 1889. Both are buried in the Troxell Cemetery (aka Otter Creek Cemetery) located next to the First Otter Creek United Baptist Church, about five miles from Revelo.
