Vermillion Woman Killed in Auto-Truck Accident

At least one person was killed Monday night on northeastern Kansas highways that were in places snowpacked and icy and often obscured by blowing snow.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said Pauline F. White, 40, Vermillion, was killed in a head-on collision at 3:40 p.m. on K-71, three miles east of K-63 near the Nebraska line in Nemaha County.

Patrol Dispatcher Robert Shannon said White was in a car with her husband, Donald E. White, 48, but it was not known which of them was driving. Donald White was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical in Topeka, where he was listed in fair condition in the facility's intensive care unit.
Shannon said the White car and a pickup truck driven by Byron E. Lear, 44, Bern, collided at the crest of a hill in blowing snow. He said Lear was treated and released from a Nemaha County hospital.
