Funeral services for Ms. Minnie Jewell Adkins, 94, of the Spring Creek community of Putnam County, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating.

Burial was in Algood City Cemetery.

Ms. Adkins died Thursday, Nov. 16 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was retired from Tennessee Tech University and was a member of Douglas Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.

Born June 20, 1912, in the Falling Water community of Putnam County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Mary (Madewell) Buckner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Adkins; 2 brothers, Crawford Buckner and Arnold Buckner; and a sister, Flossie Bilbrey.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Janice Adkins and Joe Frank and Martha Adkins, all of the Spring Creek community; a daughter and son-in-aw, Norene and Sam Talent of Spring Creek; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Billy H. Adkins, Vernon L. Adkins, Harley H. Adkins, Rick and Angela Adkins, Tammy and Mike Hoover, Sammy and Molly Talent, and Kelly Talent; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers were Billy Adkins, Vernon Adkins, Rick Adkins, Wade Adkins, Wesley Adkins, and Sammy Talent.
