Born and raised in Fresno, CA, Erik attended Fresno Unified schools (McCardle, Gibson, Manchester GATE, Computech, and Edison). Always doing well academically, he graduated as valedictorian of his 2009 Edison High School class. Erik died a week before he was to begin his sophomore year at Fresno State University.
Erik accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior when he was a 7-year old boy. He was active in church programs, and particularly enjoyed being part of annual outreach teams serving others in a Mexican orphanage.
As a youngster, Erik participated in baseball and soccer teams. After entering high school, he excelled in both water polo and swimming, receiving awards and recognition on multiple levels in these aquatic areas.
While growing up, Erik had a wide group of friends and participated as a leader in multiple groups in various settings.
During his life, Erik was able to use some of his personal life experiences that he had endured and witnessed to help others facing similar adversities.
He was also a proud member of the Cherokee Nation.
His plans included joining the California Highway Patrol in 2013 after graduating from college.

Very special thanks to the Madera County Search and Rescue / Recovery team for their efforts in this incident.

Special passage highlighted in Erik's Bible:
Psalm 91: 14-16
14 "Because he has loved Me,
therefore I will deliver him;
I will set him securely on high,
because he has known My name.
15 He will call upon Me,
and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With a long life I will satisfy him
And let him see My salvation."

Erik, when you died,
my heart was split in two,
one side filled with memories,
the other side died with you. ♥

Erik actually died on 17 August 2010, but the SSDI and his death certificate show the date as 15 September 2010 since that is when his recoverable remains were obtained.
