Steve Phillips died at about 2:30 Monday afternoon of heart trouble, from which he has been a sufferer for some time, at his home in this city and the funeral is to be held at the residence at 3 o’clock today, Rev. J. B. Williams officiating. Stephen Blanchard Phillips was born in Perry County, Indiana, September 11th, 1846, and was, therefore, in his 74th year. When but 17 years of age he enlisted in Squadron 1, 9th Iowa Calvary, and served 2 ½ years. He came to this state in 1868 and was married in this city to Miss Emily Miller, December 25th, 1870. Eight children were born to them, four of whom are now living, Mrs. May Ireland, of Fremont, Mrs. Bertha Osborn, of Omaha, Mrs. Mabel McEvars and Dan Phillips, of this city. He is survived by his wife, and two brothers, Perry Phillips, of Idaho, and John Phillips, of Oregon. During his long residence here, he made many friends and the memory of his upright life will long be remembered by all of us. The sorrowing widow and children have the sincere sympathy of all who know them.
