Daniel J. Doherty, 71, of Windom died Monday morning at the Windom Area Hospital. He had been a patient there for the past four weeks.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday) at the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom. Rev. Adolph Leimer officiated.
Organist Dennis Godemann provided accompaniment to soloist Rev. Leimer.
Casket bearers were Willis Droegemueller, Ernest Johnson, Ralph Schour, Emil Bernhardt, Dale Jurgens and Bill Tower. Interment was at the Resthaven Memory Gardens near Windom.
Doherty was born July 29, 1909 near Heron Lake, the son of John and Anna Leipold Doherty.
He attended elementary schools in Heron Lake.
For many years, Dan worked as a farmhand on various farms in the Heron Lake area.
On Oct. 7, 1937, he married Alma Heeren at Comfrey. Following their marriage, the Dohertys settled in Windom.
Dan was employed by the Toro Co. for over 20 years, retiring in 1973 when his health began to fail.
He had been receiving care at the Sogge Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Windom since November prior to his hospitalization.
Doherty is survived by his wife, Alma of Windom; two sons, Jimmie of St. Louis Park and Leo of Windom; one daughter, Mrs. Doug (Jane) Silliman of Windom; four grandchildren; one brother, Ernest of Portland, Ore; one half-brother, Jess Moon of Windom and one half-sister Mrs. James (Florence) Deece of Spokane, Wash.
