Sherman Earl Mathre, 88, of rural Newark died Monday, August 16th at Tillers Nursing Home. Mr. Mathre was born August 14, 1922 in Lisbon Twp., Kendall Co. to Severine & Edna (Severson) Mathre. He married Eloise (Brown) November 27, 1947 at the Plano United Methodist Church. Sherman farmed all his life and for many years he & his brother operated the Mathre Brothers Shelling & Hauling Service. He was a member of the Helmar Lutheran Church had been a committeeman for the Kendall Co. A.S.C.S. He is survived by his wife Eloise; his daughter, Sharon (Brian) Homerding of Minooka; his two sons, Tom (Linda) Mathre of Newark, Mark (Marge) Mathre of Newark; six grandchildren, Michael (Nicole) Homerding, Stephanie (Darren) Chaney, Jeff (Katie) Homerding, Tom Mathre Jr. Jennifer (Andrew) Bromeland, Melissa Mathre; five great-great grandchildren, Jacob, Max, Jack Homerding, Kate, Ella Bromeland; a sister, Ruth Kirkhus of Peoria and a brother, Howard (Corinne) Mathre of Newark. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Mathre-Scott; a brother Orville Mathre and a granddaughter, Jessica Mathre. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 19th at the Helmar Lutheran Church with Pastor Dana Coyle officiating. Interment will be at the Helmar Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home Ltd, 102 S. Johnson St., Newark, IL., 60541-0623, phone 815-695-5131. Pallbearers will be Michael Homerding, Jeff Homerding, Tom Mathre Jr., Darren Chaney, Andrew Bromeland and John Kirkhus. Memorials may be directed to the Helmar Lutheran Church or donors choice.
