Son of Jeremiah and Catherine Rivenburgh. Brother to: Mary C Rivenburgh Sherman (1853 - 1872), Alice C. Rifenburgh Simmons (1855 - 1927), Anna M Rivenburgh Rivenburgh (1861 - 1952) and Carrie A Rivenburgh Gruntler (1865 - 1937). He was 1/2 brother to: Catherine E. Rifenburgh Decker (1873 - 1963), Edith Rivenburgh Moore (1876 - 1957) and John Franklin Rivenburgh (1879 - 1892) through the death of his mother and his father's marriage to Margaret Hanretty. He married Ida E Moore at the Lutheran parsonage on the evening of October 11th, 1891. From this union there were four known children (6 in total): Maude Rifenburgh (1892–?), Florence C Rifenburgh Moore (1897–1977), Daniel Rifenburgh (1899–before 1910) and Jennie A Rifenburgh (1902–?). Early in his life he was a farm worker. After he was married it was noted that he did odd jobs.
