The son of John Mattson and Elizabeth Anderson, he is enumerated with his family on the 1900 and 1905 census records for Rock Creek, Pine County, MN, the family was also there in 1895. By 1910 they had moved to Crook County, Oregon. Montana Military Records has date of enlistment as 5 Jun 1917 at Fort Harrison and military transport records show he departed from Hoboken, New Jersey on 15 Dec 1917. He died of disease and was buried at Aisne, France before being reinterred here on 8 Sep 1921.
