Embert Nelson dies After Short Illness
Funeral services were held at the Alfalfa cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon for Embert Nelson, pioneer resident of Silvermoon community northwest of Carnegie. Mr. Nelson died in an El Reno hospital Thursday, March 10 after a short illness, altho he had been in failing health for a number of years.
Rev. M.C. Scrudder conducted a short service at the home for the benefit of two children who were too ill to leave their home. At the service at the cemetery Rev. Scrudder spoke to a large congregation of friends and neighbors. Following the service the Alfalfa Odd Fellow lodge took charge, paying their respects to a departed member.
Embert F. Nelson was born is Bond county, Ill., August 14, 1879 and died March 10, 1932, aged 52 years, 6 months and 26 days. He located on the present homestead one mile west and one south of Alfalfa in 1900.
He was united in marriage July 27, 1904 in Washita county to Miss Kate Fulk. Six children were born to this union: Ewing Nelson of Martinez, Calif.; Garnet Nelson of Alfalfa; Mrs. Grace McBride, Alfalfa, and Martha, Dortha and Bruce of the parental home.
Other relatives include: his mother who lives at Carrier and his sisters, Mrs. Amanda Earlywine, Helena; Mrs. Martha Cook, Spokane, Wash.; and Mrs. Emma Purdy, Carrier; four brothers, George and Henry Nelson, Carrier; Chalmers Nelson, Goltry, and John Nelson, Helena; and a grandson, Curtis Dwain McBride, Alfalfa.
Mr. Nelson was a respected neighbor and friend. He was a member of the Odd Fellow lodge, a member of his district school board and served his community in many other ways.
