Mrs. John L. (Elsie) Evans, born in Iowa City on February 24, 1888, daughter of Louis and Ada Lyon, passed away at Hand Community Hospital on May 10, 1973, following a year long illness.
She was united in marriage to John L. Evans on June 20, 1912. To this union were born four sons; Donald of Omaha, Russell of Shenandoah, Jack of Emerson, and Marion. Her son Marion and her husband preceded her in death.
She is also survived by two sister, Mrs. Myra Byers of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Louis Van Schierenbeck of Fullerton, California; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Mrs. Evans lived in Iowa City prior to her marriage. She graduated from the University of Iowa and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority there.
She was a past worthy matron of the Emerson Chapter of Eastern Star, and in 1944 served as Grand Worthy Matron of Iowa. She was a member of the Episcopal Church in Iowa City, but had attended serval churches in this area.
Funeral services were held at Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home in Red Oak, Saturday, May 12, 1973 with Rev. Gayle Stickler officiating. Interment was at Emerson Cemetery.
