John "JACK" Evans, age 90 of Red Oak and Emerson, IA

John Louis "Jack" Evans, the son of John L. and Elsie (Lyon) Evans was born in Emerson, Iowa on March l5, 1915. Jack died on Friday, August 12, 2005 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 28 days.

Jack was a graduate of Emerson High School, having served as class president all four years, Wentworth Military Academy Jr. College and Iowa State University, where he played football. He served as pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II, serving in Philippines and Okinawa. He retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Captain. Jack was married to Margaret "Mickey" Young on November 19, 1939 in Red Oak, Iowa. Jack resided in the Red Oak and Emerson areas most of his life. Jack had farmed, worked in production at Union Carbide Battery Company, sales at Hoffman Television, Murphy Calendar, Hydro Conduit and controller at Viner Trucking. While living in Emerson he was serving as Mayor during the flood of 1982. Jack was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Red Oak. He had also been active in Masonic Lodge, Elks Lodge, Optimists Club, Nebraska Concrete Pipe Association, PTA and Red Oak Country Club. Jack enjoyed a hole in one at the Brooks Beach County Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Marion, Russell and Donald.

Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret "Mickey" Evans of Stanton, IA, 4 children; David Evans and wife Mary of Evergreen, CO, Nancy Dalton and husband John of Garden City, MO, E. John Evans and wife Kim of Santa Rosa, CA and Thomas Evans and wife Janeen of Omaha, NE, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.
