George B. Stadden was elected President of the Franklin Life Insurance Company in April 1914. He was in the life insurance business twenty-five years and first associated himself with the company as an agent in 1890. He was appointed a general agent for Missouri. After three years he left Franklin to accept a position as head of the Missouri general agency of the Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance company. In the six years he was with this company he rose successively to supervisor of agents and western superintendent. Mr. Stadden's return to the Franklin Life in 1898 was marked by the company's reorganizaiton and a large share of that work fell to him. The company began to take rapid strides forward. He was made manager of agents of the reorganizaed company. In 1907 he was eletted vice president, but continued to discharge the duties of manager of agents.
He was born in Springfield Aug. 22, 1861. After a course in the public schools he entered the old Bogardus business college. Later he attended St. Louis University for a short time. When he was fourteen years old he entered the employ of R. F. Herndon & Co., beginning his work there as bundle boy. He remained with this company thirteen years, resigning as head bookkeeper and confidential advisor to the management to enter the life insurance field. George Boynton Stadden died Sunday, Nov. 11, 1923, at the family residence, Lowell avenue, of complications after an illness of several months, at the age of 62 years. Short funeral services will be held tomorrow at the residence for members of the family and public services will be at Christ Episcopal church. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. Decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Ingmire Stadden; one son, Edgar Adair Stadden and one daughter, Mrs. Herman H. Cole. - IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 11-12-1923
