Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 22 Mar 2009: West Columbia - Alice Amanda Derrick Hite, 92, of West Columbia, wife of the late Walter H. Hite, Sr., died Friday March 20, 2009 at the home of her son. Visitation will be Sunday, March 22, 2009 from 4-6 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. The funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Paul Aebischer and Rev. Virginia Aebischer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers: Steve Blackwell, Miller Shealy, Sr., David Douglas, Larry Boone, Darryl Boone, Rudy Jones, Sen. Nikki Setzler, Doug Reeves, Jack Hill, Bob Livingston, Jimmy Roof, Elford Caughman, and Ladies Aid Society of Mt. Tabor. The family suggests that memorials be made to Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 1000 B Avenue, West Columbia, SC 29169. Born in the town of Lexington, SC, October 25, 1916, a daughter of the late John W. and Mary Irene Weed Derrick, Alice was a resident of West Columbia since 1937. She was a graduate of Irmo High School. Mrs. Hite was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, life member of N.A.R.F.E Chapter 87, World Society Unit 1276, a former member of the National Auxiliary to the Association of Postal Supervisors Branch 225 of Columbia and of the American Legion Auxiliary of Post 79 in West Columbia. She loved compiling family histories, was a wonderful cook, and a loving wife and mother. Mrs. Hite is survived by her son, Walter Herman Hite, Jr., (Carolyn), sisters-in-law, Helen S. Derrick and Ruby H. Hite. She was predeceased by sisters, Elberta Myers Sutherland and Ethel D. Adair; by brothers, B. O'Merle Derrick, Sr., William G. Derrick, Wilbur L. Derrick, R. Ellis Derrick, J. Madison Derrick, and Bennie H. Derrick. The family thanks Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care of Mrs. Hite.
