Edward C. Cornell.
Edward C. Cornell, 52, manager of the Alexandra Court hotel and member of a pioneer family, died Saturday night. Funeral services will be held at 11 A. M. Tuesday at the chapel of Holman & Lutz.
Mr. Cornell was born in Portland October 17, 1876, the son of Edward W. and Sarah Robb Cornell both pioneers of an early date. Cornell road was named for the grandfather. The father was for many years a member of the real estate and insurance firm of Parrish, Watkins & Cornell. His mother was the daughter of James R. Robb, a pioneer of 1842, whose name is on the monument at Champoeg.
Mr. Cornell was educated at the Portland academy. He was married in 1904 to Maude McMullen, a niece of Miss M. F. Murphy. He was connected with the Oregon-Washington Railroad & Navigation company and later went to San Francisco as purchasing agent for the Western Pacific railroad. H resigned that position to become manager of the Alexandra Court hotel, which position he held for 21 years. He was a life member of the Multnomah club and a member of the Portland Golf club and an active member of the Oregon State Hotel association.
He is survived by his widow and a daughter, Mary Frances Cornell. (The Oregonian, 10 Dec 1928, p. 28)
