Andrew was born in Miller Co, MO, and spent the first half of his life there. He married Roxie Josphine Denton on 14 Apr 1892 in Tuscumbia, Miller Co, MO. He was a farmer in the 1900 census and operated a ferry boat in Capps, MO, for about 6 yrs beginning in 1909. The rest of his life he worked as a laborer in various jobs. Some time between 1910 & 1920 he moved his family to Jefferson City, Cole Co, MO.

There is some confusion on Ancestry.com that Andrew was in the Civil War. The 1890 Veterans Schedule lists another Andrew Abbett that died in 1868. On the 1930 census this Andrew states that he is NOT a veteran.

Andy and Roxie had 10 children: Lillie A., Lewis Ivy, Rosa Vernettie, Melcena Ethel, Milo Claude, Walter William (or William Walter), Thomas Clergy, Churchill, Harvey Preston, and Raymond Everett.

He died at his home on on 13 Oct 1939 from a cerebral hemorrhage/arteriosclerosis. (There is an obituary in the Oct 14, 1939, Daily Capital News, of Jefferson City, MO under the name of "Thomas Andrew Abbett." If anyone has a copy of this I would appreciate it if you would add it to this memorial.

Note: various branches of his family spell their name as Abbott, Abbet, etc. All the census records for Andrew spell his name as "Abbett".
