Gerson Doney, Sr. owned a 40 acre farm near Emerickville, one of the earliest in the county. He was listed as a carpenter in the 1850 Census. Later listed as a farmer and then a peddler. He was remembered by many as the maker and dispenser of "Doney's Salve", a valuable preparation for sores, cuts, bruises, etc. In 1832, in Shamokin, Northumberland County, PA., he married Catharine Dunkelberger. They had 8 children: Catherine (Neel), John D., Daniel D., Emanuel, Mary Elizabeth (Endress), Salome (Mowrey), William F. and Gerson, Jr.

At this time, unable to determine without question, who his parents are.
