He served in the Confederate Army as a Sergeant with the NC 14th and following the war settled into the grocery business in the Swift Creek section of Raleigh. In about 1869 he married Martha Elizabeth Cooke, daughter of George T. Cooke, Sr, and would become father to 2 known children: Annie Stronach (ca. 1869) and George T. Stronach Jr. (ca. 1874).
George Thomas Stronach died in January 1887 at about age 45. His wife never remarried and died in 1908 at age 60.
Following her husband's death, Martha moved in with her married sister, Annie Cooke Wainwright, in Wilson, NC where she died.
Their only surviving child, George T. Stronach, Jr. remained in Wilson where he was a banker. He married and had a son, George T. Stronach III.
