Mary married commission merchant Wayne Alcott of New York around 1866 in Raleigh when she was about age 26 and he aged 23. They were parents of 3 known children:

* William N. Alcott (1868-1915), Richmond, VA
* Mary E. Alcott WILKINSON 1876-1965)
It is known her husband, Wayne Alcott, was an agent for farm machinery and was known to have built a substantial Victorian home on Polk Street, Raleigh in 1893, in what is now the historic Oakwood District.
Mary died in August 1883 at age 43 and was buried in the Stronach plot in Oakwood Cemetery. After her death, her husband removed to Norwich, Chenango Co, NY where in 1890 he married (2nd) to Mary "Ernestine" Tucker (1853-1909), from whom he separated from sometime after 1900. Wayne Alcott died in Syracuse on 10 February, 1920 and his widowed daughter, Mary Alcott Wilkerson, and Wilkerson grandchildren were by his side.
