Hamilton Sloniker, of Warren, the last of 20 children, 17 of whom were Civil War veterans, died Tuesday night at the county infirmary. The body was brought to Warren to the home of his daughter, Mrs. John McNeal. Mr. Sloniker had been ill for three weeks with dysentery. He was 76 years old. Mr. Sloniker was born July 4, 1850, the son of Joseph and Catherine Sloniker, who were living in Delaware County, Ind. He was one of 18 brothers and he had two sisters. All of his brothers fought in the Civil War and when he was 12 years old he ran away from home to join the army. He was sent for by his parents and went home. He married Miss Yohey on Oct. 22, 1872, and the couple lived at Pleasant Plains for about 40 years. His wife died about seven years ago and he went to live with his daughter and her family where he lived until his recent illness when he was taken to the infirmary where he died. He had been a shoemaker for many years. Surviving are: Frank Sloniker, Mrs. John McNeal of Warren, and Joseph Sloniker of Fort Wayne; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two sons, Walter and George died in infancy. Funeral services are to be held at the United Brethren Church at Warren Friday forenoon at 10:30 o'clock. Burial is to be at the Red Men's cemetery.
