Genevieve V. Rankin
1919 - 2008

Former local resident Genevieve V. Rankin passed away in San Antonio, Texas March 22, 2008.

She was born in Meadow, S.D., to Guy D. and Harriet (Bucklin) Hopper March 26, 1919. She moved to Kelso with her parents, brother and sister during the Great Depression and was a local resident until 2007, when she moved to Texas to be near her daughter and grandchildren.

Genevieve was a 1937 graduate of Kelso high School. She was the class salutatorian, played varsity basketball and was well liked and respected by her classmates. After graduation, she worked for Weyerhaeuser Company, where she met the love of her life, Jerry Rankin. They were married in June 1941 and were together for 64 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006; a sister, Aurilla Reagan; and a brother, Ray Hopper.

Surviving Genevieve are a son and daughter-in-law, Patrick R. and Sally Rankin of Longview; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela R. and Dr. Frank Emmett of San Antonio; two granddaughters and their husbands, Stacey N. and Chris Woodward in Alaska and Erin K. and Joseph Hurd of Luling, Texas; a grandson, Patrick Rankin Jr., of Chicago; two stepgrandsons, J. Phillip Martin and his wife, Sherry of Kelso and Brian J. Martin of Longview; five great-grandchildren, Bailey, Keely, Stella, McKenna and William; and a very special niece, JoAnn Ofstedahl of Gladstone, Ore.

At Genevieve's request, no service will be held.
