Born to Benjamin & Mary "Polly" Ann (Gilham) Richard of Mauckport, Harrison Co IN, EH (as he was known) was the father of a total of 24 children. [The number of children has been revised per Census record for year 1900 whereby wife Elizabeth states she is the mother of 15 children, 11 of whom are still living this year.]

EH married:
1) Hannah Current on 24 Apr 1844 in Corydon, Harrison Co IN, the daughter of Samuel & Mary (Applegate) Current of Harrison Co IN. Hannah died in 1862, along with their children Sarah and Charles, in what was either an influenza or typhoid outbreak.
2) Elizabeth Jones on 17 May 1863 in Mauckport, Harrison Co IN, the daughter of Martin & Lydia (Simcox) Jones of Mauckport, Harrison Co IN.

All of EH's children by first wife Hannah, were born in Mauckport, including the first five children from his second marriage to Elizabeth. Sometime after Jun 1870 and before Jan 1871, EH and his family moved to Chautauqua Co KS where eight more children were born, then later to Woodward Co OK. EH died at age 87 yrs.
