One of only two children born to Lt Peter & Mary Ann (Kline) Gilham of England and Germany respectively, and late of Mountain Falls, Frederick Co VA, Polly was half sister to eight siblings, born of her father and his first wife.
Polly married:
1) Benjamin Richard on 28 Aug 1811 in Frederick Co VA, the son of Henry & Catherine Elizabeth (Rudolph) Richard of Mountain Falls, Frederick Co VA; he died in 1826. Benjamin is my 3rd Gr-Grandfather; they had at least eight children, three sons and five daughters.
2) William Herndon on 7 Jun 1835 in Harrison Co IN, parents unknown to date; they had one daughter, Cynthia Ann Herndon (1838-1887).
Polly's second husband William removed to Quincy, Adams Co IL. It seems Polly did not go with him and on Census records 1840 thru 1880, she is still living in Heth Twp, Harrison Co IN. On most of these records, she is using her former married name of Richard.

James Rose is most likely the son of Mary's daughter Martha who died the same year he was born, 1843; Martha's husband Richard Rose may have left the child in Mary's care.
