ARCHIE ELLIS, 74, PIONEER RESIDENT DIES; RITES SUNDAY
J. Archie Ellis, Montgomery County pioneer resident, died here Friday, eleven days following the death of his wife.
James Archibald Ellis was born November 11, 1867 in Mason County, Illinois and was 74 years old at his death. At the age of 15 years he came with his family to Iowa and from boyhood until his young manhood he lived near Grant.
He was married to Minnie E. Mullen on March 9, 1892, and to them two children were born, one son died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Hallean Years of Yorktown, Iowa. With the exception of eight years spent in Montana, the family home ws always in Montgomery County.
Besides his daughter and husband, Mr. Ellis leaves 3 grandchildren, one brother, and the Rev. John S. Ellis of Farmington, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Sutphen Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. F. W. Thompson. The singing was by Mrs. Maude Scott and Mrs. Grace Nordyke, and the pall bearers were Kay Wheeler, Geo. Higgins, Walter Matthael, Miles DeVoss, John Holdren, and Russell Winter. Interment was in the Arlington Cemetery north of Villisca.
