Leon graduated from the Shickley High School in 1950. He married Carol L. Brower on February 21, 1952 in Bellville, KS; she passed away September 15, 2001. He was in the Air Force for 4 years; he was a 1956 Veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Krieger Electric Co. for 20 years in Hastings, NE. He taught night classes at the Central Community College for 19 years, on how to do electrical work.
He was a Volunteer Fireman in Hastings, NE for 20 years where he was a Captain Fireman. He worked with the Boy Scouts in Hastings, NE for many years and he did volunteer work at the St. Cecilia's Bazar for years in Hastings.
He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #868 both in Hastings, NE. He transferred his membership from Shickley American Legion after 34 years to the Kenesaw #268 in 2007.
Leon loved to watch Nebraska play football and all of Kenesaw sports games. Leon and his dog Precious were constant companions.
He is survived by daughter Gail (Kendall) Whitsel of Juniata, NE and son Douglas (Chis) Schafer of Hastings, NE, grandchildren, Trevor (P.J.) Tyler, Teri Schafer, and Laura and Jennifer Whitsel. great grandchildren, Jacob, Kailyn and Layne Schafer and a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, a grandson, Ethan and brothers Richard and Gaylord.
