In 1940 Heny and Lydia Belle (Clark) Edwards' golden anniversary was reported in the Puyallup Valley Newspaper. "MARRIED 50 YEARS: more than 100 friends and relatives gathered at Jovita Community Club Hall recently in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Theodore Edwards, on the 50th wedding anniversary. A second honeymoon is to take the Jovita couple to Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards were preparing to leave their home Friday on a second honeymoon. The first honeymoon was fifty years ago when they were married in Maquoketa, Iowa, 25 October 1890. The second honeymoon, which was to follow a celebration staged in Jovita's Community Club Hall by more than 100 relatives in observance of the couple's golden wedding anniversary, will take them to Iowa again, where they will renew old acquaintanceships and visit scenes of their earlier life. The couple received many gifts; the evening was devoted to dancing and entertainment, which was climaxed by a later supper. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards came west in 1910; moving to Puyallup, later they established residence at Jovita, where they have resided for the past twenty years. The couple have nine children; Harley Edwards of Jovita; Harmon of Quilene, George C. of Tacoma, Myrtle Crawford, Gertrude Caple, Hazel Schreiner, Effie Swayze, all of Jovita, Verna Cook of Fife, and Ethel Bailey in Bremerton. There were also twenty grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Lydia Belle (Clark) Edwards survived her husband by almost ten years; her blindness became worst and cancer of the breast was discovered. Even its removal did not stop the spread of the disease. Towards the end of her life she was placed under the care of a Tacoma Nursing Home, the social security checks paying for her support.
On 31 August 1962, Henry and Lydia Belle (Clark) Edwards were united. A piece of history was gone. The memories and stories passed on to the younger generation made the past become alive.
