She was known to be a bright and attractive girl, very keen and enthusiastic, very intelligent.
After training she was parachuted into France in April 1944 and worked as a wireless operator for the Ventriloquist Network.
She worked very hard at the tasks in hand working late at night and moving to various locations - finally going to Vernou.
Muriel then started to look pale and was diagnosed with meningitis and went to the Romorantin Hospital run by nuns. Her papers were forged but none of the nuns made any comments or informed the Germans of this.
Muriel Byck died of meningitis on 23rd May 1944 (aged 25) she had been in occupied territory for 6 weeks.
