This photo was taken during the first combat tour of the Black Sheep under Major Greg 'Pappy' Boyington's leadership. Due to pilots KIA or wounded, there are only 22 of the assigned 28 pilots in the photo, plus the intel officer (Walton) and the USN flight surgeon (Reames).

(WTP note: This has to be my favorite photo of the Black Sheep. I have colored it before but, the previous photo was a poor quality scan. Last summer, when I was in Pensacola and DC, I searched and searched for it and couldn't find it anywhere. Last week, with the help of some FB friends and a volunteer that went above and beyond the call of duty, I was able to obtain a great scan of the photo!) — with Gregory Boyington, James J.
